Bernd Martin

Bernd Martin was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1954. Drawn to the guitar from an early age, he came to Granada in 1976 to study guitar making. As have so many Granada makers, he began his apprenticeship under Eduardo Ferrer in the "Casa Ferrer," the shop established in 1875 by Benito Ferrer. He also studied with Antonio Duran and Jose Lopez Bellido. Eventually, he opened his own shop, becoming the first non-Spaniard maker to establish a shop in Granada. He builds in the Spanish tradition and specializes in building classical concert guitars using only the finest, carefully selected, and aged woods. His continued efforts--in close contact with outstanding guitarists--to build world class guitars have won his instruments increasing recognition. In 1999, his guitars were awarded first prize and a gold medal at the First National Contest for Stringed Instruments in Sevilla, a contest juried by Jose L. Romanillos. Martin guitars are light, aesthetically pleasing instruments. They easy to play with lyric qualities, and possess a clear, balanced, precise tone, rich in color, that projects well.
